Townsend Communications Increases Publishing Revenue with Smart Mobile Solutions
Publisher of College Outlook magazine deploys Moblico's dual 2D barcode scanning and image recognition solution for truly profitable interactive print

Kansas City, MO, March 30, 2011 – Moblico, a leading provider of integrated mobile solutions that acquire, retain, transact, and support customers, today announced that Townsend Communications, a next-generation media publisher that integrates digital channels with traditional print, has boosted its publishing revenue by deploying Moblico's dual 2D barcode scanning and image recognition offering as part of its College Outlook magazine- the first time the two cameraphone-based technologies have been brought together. Coupled with a complementary mobile application called "MyMajors App," the Spring edition of College Outlook is entirely interactive, bringing the publication "to life" by extending the value of content and advertising well beyond print.
Townsend's use of Moblico's hybrid barcode and scanning technology represents new ground in empowering publishers to go far beyond what's between the two covers of magazines, catalogues and books. Previously, interactive publishing meant clunky third party smartphone scanning apps and limited returns. With Moblico, publishers can significantly increase profits while delivering the ultimate value to readers and advertisers through a publication-branded, dedicated smartphone application that is designed to work directly with the print medium. Images and scans that are activated with smartphones not only unlock interactive elements such as mobile websites, videos, direct communications, offers, etc., the dedicated apps are tied into the Moblico platform, a sophisticated marketing strategy engine that provides real-time analytics, allowing publishers to track and measure effectiveness and reader behavior. Through this invaluable insight, advertisers receive a clear understanding of their investment.
"Our presence in Townsend's magazine has become an invaluable part of our marketing efforts," said Don Dubuque, Director of Extension Programs, Flight Operations of the University of North Dakota/ John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences. "The MyMajors App has really enhanced our online marketing tools through the barcode scanning and image recognition features. Our flight school is especially looking to reach very specific prospects, so the interactive nature of both the mobile app and our advertisement in College Outlook has really boosted our ability to reach the right audience. A huge 'win' for us all the way around!"
"Townsend's mission has always been to provide interactive publishing tools that goes beyond traditional print," said Bill Gaier, Vice President of Business Development for Townsend Communications. "Thanks to Moblico's unique business solutions, we have taken our already comprehensive use of the mobile channel to the next level, providing increased value to both our readers and our advertisers."
"Moblico is committed to helping publishers create new revenues and profits through the use of mobile technologies," said Pierre Barbeau, CEO of Moblico. "Townsend Communications is a true pioneer and we are pleased to see that their efforts are already being rewarded."
