Background
Ranked as America’s second-busiest arena, the Anschutz Entertainment Group’s (AEG) Sprint Center hosts a wide variety sporting and entertainment events for Kansas City. From the NBA to The Radio City Rockettes, the Sprint Center has something for everyone.AEG recognized there was a greater opportunity to engage venue attendees beyond the scheduled competitions and shows, but wanted to do something beyond “the ordinary” and create an experience that left fans wanting more.
AEG engaged Moblico to support Sprint Center events, kicking off the relationship with initiatives surrounding the October 8th, 2010 Oklahoma City Thunder versus Miami Heat NBA pre- season game.
How Moblico Got Fans Into The Game
Moblico provides integrated mobile offerings that allow organizations to acquire, retain, transact and support customer relationships. Moblico created a number of in-venue events that engaged fans via the digital jumbo screen and their mobile devices. Throughout the game, attendees participated in interactive, real-time competitions that pitted fans against one another, including trivia challenges and an opportunity to choose which song was played during half-time.There were also drawings for an incredible seat upgrade, a 4G phone from Sprint, an autographed team jersey, and a chance to make a half-court shot for a Toyota 4Runner.
The NBA basketball game had 17,379 people in attendance, a solid 22 percent of fans fan eagerly participated in each interactive challenge with over 26,000 messages generated between fans and the event organizers. Not only did the Sprint Center benefit from the participation that added to its contact database, event sponsors including Harley Davidson, Sprint Nextel, and Toyota extended their investments by attracting subscribers as well.
