Mobile Greening

It’s Earth Day and the carriers are getting in on the festivities by launching some green initiatives. As reported by Wireless Week:

Verizon Builds Green Stores
Verizon Wireless says that nearly 60 brick-and-mortar stores have been recognized for energy efficiency. That’s up from 32 stores in 2009. According to a press release, 59 Verizon Wireless Communications Stores have been awarded the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Energy Star certification.

Sprint Adds Restore to Line-up
Sprint and Samsung have teamed up on the unveiling of the Samsung Restore, a follow-on to last year’s Samsung Reclaim. The Restore, which is a slider qwerty-texting phone, will sell for $49.99 with a two-year agreement. Like the Reclaim, the Restore is made from recycled materials.

The Samsung Reclaim recently received the Best of Green: Best New Cell Phone Award in the Science and Technology category by TreeHugger.com.

T-Mobile Plants Trees
T-Mobile gets green with a paperless billing offer similar to the AT&T has on tap. T-Mobile will plant a tree on behalf of those customers that switch to parperless billing. Also, T-Mobile is the exclusive carrier of what Motorola bills as the “world’s first CarbonFree Certified mobile phone,” the MOTO W233 Renew.

AT&T Offers Discount on Charger
AT&T is offering the award-winning AT&T ZERO Charger at a 40 percent discount to any customer who brings in a wireless device for recycling in its stores. Once the charger is available in AT&T stores this May, the discount will be available on one charger per customer.

I’m glad to see these efforts, and am especially excited that our own clients are supporting the environment by taking advantage of our mobile couponing and other paper-saving services. Happy Earth Day!

iBuzz: Planting an Apple Seed?

The mobile world is all a-buzz about the allegedly lost and deconstructed iPhone prototype that was featured on Gizmodo yesterday. According to reports, the new iPhone was found on a bar stool and once the founder discovered that it was something different, they began to offer the device to the highest bidder.

After paying $5000 for the device, Gizmodo proceeded to deconstruct the phone and analyze every little detail. According to PC World:

Did Gizmodo shell out $5,000 for its exclusive lost iPhone 4G story?

Yes, says head of Gawker Media (the publisher of Gizmodo) Nick Denton, who tweeted earlier Monday, “Yes, we’re proud practitioners of checkbook journalism. Anything for the story!” and “Does Gizmodo pay for exclusives? Too right!”

Of course, many skeptics are saying that all of this amounts to nothing more than a publicity stunt in order to drive buzz and interest in Apple’s next anticipated iPhone. Well, whatever it is, the new technology sounds promising and we’re looking forward to it! With every new development, the services we offer advance… bring it on!

Taco Bell & Pizza Hut to go Head-to-Head at Western Kentucky University

Fugate Enterprises Launches First-of-its-Kind Mobile Voting Campaign, Allowing Students to Decide Which Restaurant will be Built Near the WKU Campus

Kansas City, MO, April 6, 2010 – Fugate Enterprises, one of the top 10 franchisees of Pizza Hut and Taco Bell, today announced the launch of its mobile voting promotion in which the students of Western Kentucky University have a say regarding whether a Taco Bell or Pizza Hut will be built near campus. From April 1st through April 17th, WKU students are able to cast their votes by texting WKU4 PH (Pizza Hut) or WKU4 TB (Taco Bell) to 32075.

“We have been operating 270 Pizza Huts and Taco Bells for over 30 years. This time, we wanted to let the community we will be serving choose which particular one they want,” said Sergio Roman, Marketing Director of Fugate Enterprises. “This will be a fun, unique way for us to promote our new location, as well as give the students the opportunity to voice what they prefer via the medium that would allow the best direct interaction- mobile.”

Fugate will be promoting the campaign to WKU students through marketing initiatives provided by United Marketing Communications (UMC), a leading provider of marketing services specializing in the restaurant and food services industry. Banners announcing the voting campaign will be displayed at the WKU vs. South Alabama baseball game April 9th, as well as at the WKU vs. Louisville baseball game on April 14th. Giveaways that feature printed information about the promotion will also help notify the students about their chance to vote.

Moblico Solutions, a provider of integrated mobile offerings that support and extend customer relationships, is managing the voting process for the Fugate WKU competition. WKU students can vote April 1st through April 17th. Once a vote is cast, a confirmation message is sent back indicating that a vote of “PH” or “TB” was recorded. Competition results will be announced by the end of April.

I can’t wait to see who wins this ground-breaking (both literal and figurative!!) competition! Good luck to both brands.
